The car handbrake lever is an important part that plays a role in keeping the vehicle stable when parked or stopped on steep roads. However, drivers often have difficulty pulling the handbrake lever which feels stiff, disrupting comfort and raising concerns about safety.

Iwan, the owner of Iwan Motor Honda Auto Clinic, explains that a stiff handbrake is usually caused by brake system damage.
"The reason for a stiff handbrake could be due to a jammed or worn cable, resulting in the handbrake not locking properly," Iwan told Kompas.com on Monday (30/9/2024). He added that besides these issues, adjusting the handbrake too short can also make the lever pull harder.
To ensure that the handbrake adjustment is not too short and does not cause heavy pulling, Iwan suggests that car owners follow the adjustment rules. "Generally, the handbrake lever is adjusted to around six to nine clicks for optimal results," he revealed.
Paying attention to the handbrake condition is crucial because a properly functioning braking system not only provides comfort but also ensures safety while driving.
