BYD M6 Ownership Costs for the First 5 Years

BYD M6 is here as an answer for the Indonesian community looking for a family car with three rows of seats. This is the fourth car from BYD launched in Indonesia, following the earlier introductions of Dolphin, Atto 3, and Seal.

One of the main advantages of electric cars is their relatively lower operational costs. Additionally, electric cars also receive various incentives or tax subsidies from the government.

In terms of power consumption, calculations are based on usage over five years or approximately 100,000 km. The BYD M6 is equipped with a 71.8 kWh battery that can travel up to 530 km on a single full charge. Based on a simple calculation, to cover 100,000 km in five years, this car requires about 189 charging sessions.

The cost for a full charge at the Public Electric Vehicle Charging Station (SPKLU) owned by PLN is 71.8 kWh multiplied by the rate of Rp 2,466 per kWh, resulting in a total cost of Rp 175,623 for one full charge. Therefore, the total cost of charging the BYD M6 battery over five years is estimated at Rp 33,192,709.

For taxes, the Mandatory Contribution for Traffic Accident Fund (SWDKLLJ) is Rp 143,000 per year, while the Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Motor Vehicle Ownership Transfer Fee (BBNKB) are Rp 0 because the BYD M6 is an electric vehicle. Thus, the total tax costs over five years amount to Rp 715,000.

Service costs also need to be taken into account. The first service is done at 5,000 km, followed by subsequent services every 20,000 km. BYD does not provide free services, so owners have to pay for labor costs. Spare part replacements are done every 40,000 km. Based on the BYD service cost table, the total service and spare part replacement costs up to 80,000 km amount to Rp 4,747,955.

Overall, the total ownership cost of the BYD M6 over five years, which includes charging costs, taxes, and services, is estimated at Rp 38,655,664. When averaged, the cost per year is around Rp 7,731,132, or Rp 644,261 per month, and approximately Rp 21,475 per day.
